Simply wearing anti-static shoes does not mean every static-related hazard has been controlled.

Standard anti-static footwear does not automatically meet those requirements. If staff handle sensitive electronics, check the footwear specification against the workplace’s ESD control requirements.
Anti-static footwear is not electrically insulating footwear. It must not be relied upon to protect someone working with live electricity.
Electrical work requires its own risk assessment, safe working procedures and appropriate protective equipment. Footwear designed to manage static charge should never be mistaken for footwear designed to provide electrical insulation.
Start with the workplace risk assessment and select footwear that addresses all relevant hazards. Anti-static properties are only one consideration; toe protection, slip resistance and other features may also be needed.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use and care, and check that the flooring supports the required static dissipation. Any replacement insoles or modifications should also follow the manufacturer’s guidance.
Where a risk assessment requires particular footwear, clear signs and stickers can help communicate that requirement at entrances, changing areas and access points.
